PART TWO: THE PEARLS
As I checked the pearl fit on the original test printed pieces, I discovered that the lower bottom lip cupped around the pearl too much, for the pearl to “slip” in and out.
I had to adjust the bottom lip, rolling it outward, for the pearl to fit properly. Fit, size, post placement, sliding in and out w a tight fit in the mouth, the angle of the mouth; all were critical.
Once adjusted the lip, I could check the pearl’s movement sliding onto the post to hold it in cad, and make sure it fit.
Checking things like this is just one of the reasons I was glad I had decided to build the piece in brass and silver, before casting the 18K gold. Its always good to shake out the kinks in a piece like this.
“Seems like it’s been forever coming- almost like what I imagine birth would be like, waiting and waiting forever for it to be formed correctly. The design, the testing the fitting, the redoing the texture, the doing the texture in the first place, the building it “clean” so it could be scaled and tweaked…. it went on and on, and I am so grateful to be at this stage…”
